Dutchman’s Puzzle Quilt Block

This block can be found in the book titled; “One Hundred and one Patchwork Patterns” by Ruby Short McKim. The book was published in 1931. The Dutchman’s puzzle is made of eight Flying Geese.

How to make it:

First cut your pieces-
Cut 8 x 3 7/8 squares from black fabric of your choice
Cut 2 x 7 1/4 squares of your color choosing.

I used turquoise and maroon for my large squares.

Then draw a diagonal line across the back of your black fabric.

Place the black fabric pieces on the bigger squares on opposite corners.

Stitch 1/4” along both sides of the drawn line. Then cut between the two stitched lines.

Then iron and it will kind of like a heart.

Place another one of those black squares at the tip, flowing into the center of the heart shape. Sew 1/4” on each side of the drawn line, just like before. Cut down the line and iron.

Layout your blocks, and sew.
