Teaching Children to Sew
Some people consider quilting/ sewing a lost art- but I believe that their is still hope. I’ve taught a couple of kids how to get started with sewing. First I recommend printing out some print sheets to practice sewing straight lines. I found some free printable sheets “here” by emi & ko Using practice sheets helps with confidence, especially when using a machine the first time.
Start kids lessons with vocabulary of the machine and sewing terms and safety. And threading the machine, they like to wind a bobbin and 'drive FAST'. Google has a diagram of the sewing machine( I have even found them to match the machine ). Give them a note book for taking notes.
Some recommended first projects:
First bags - they allow you to do seams and make a casing - then pajama pants (which are actually bags with legs) they allow you to learn a pattern - pillows are also good
Pin cushion
Pillow cases, Missouri star has a great you tube for it . Plus very useful!
Pajama bottoms
