6“ Square Swap

I Spy Block Swap

I've been dying to do a swap before December so everyone can use the squares to make Christmas gifts... and I want to be sure lots of people can participate, so we'll try for a swap!*

This swap is going to have a schedule, so PLEASE be sure you can meet the deadlines BEFORE you sign up!

THE BASICS:

Mail 200 I-Spy squares to me by the 10th of the month.

Get 200 I-Spy squares back, all different, by the 24th day of the month.

I know this is a tight schedule, but I want everyone to have plenty of time to use their squares for Christmas presents!

THE DETAILS:

1. The first 30 people to comment are in. [If you live outside the U.S., no problem -- but please mail your fabrics a little earlier so there's plenty of time to meet the deadline!]

2. Cut 20 6" squares out of each of 10 different novelty print fabrics.

3. In order to avoid duplicates, everyone will need to search out unusual or obscure prints. Look for things that aren't available at chain stores. But, please, pick FUN ones! If you love it, the other swappers will love it too!

4. Remember that we are looking for fabric with objects on it, not printy-prints. (A fabric with FLOWERS on it is very different from a FLORAL PRINT.)

5. Limit / No "licensed" prints: No Disney, Dora, L.A. Lakers, etc.

6. Remember seam allowances! Be sure you can tell what you are looking at within a 6 1/2". Nobody wants only half of an object in their square -- cut them well! (Depending on your fabric choice, you may need to buy more than 1/4 yard in order to get an object into each cut square.)

If you want to join me in this obsession, leave a comment here that

includes your email address!!

Remember: The FIRST 30 who comment are IN!

*IF by chance we don't make it to the full swap,

we'll do a single swap with the first 15 and save the rest of the swappers for the next swap.

SERIOUS SWAPPERS ONLY...

Please read the guidelines before signing up!

Fidget Blanket (Fummeldecke) Ideas

This will be my first time ever making a fidget blanket- I was so happy to have the opportunity today to gift my Oma a fidget blanket. I love her with all my heart, it just makes me so sad that not much can be done for her while struggling through dementia. She told me it was beautiful and she appeared to like it. I showed her each square and what she can do with it. The first thing she noticed was the wording; „Mit Liebe Gemacht“ which translates to „Made with love“.  Oma Hildegard is German and I wanted to make sure she would recognize things and always remember that we love her.  What is a Fidget Blanket? Fidget blankets are therapeutic small lap quilts to which different kinds of things are sewn or added on. These items offer sensory stimulation that can have a calming effect on patient who struggle with memory loss. The Fidget blankets help them stay busy avoiding boredom. It provides a means of performing repetitive behaviors that are often reassuring and calming. ...

Diamonds Are Forever Quilt Block

Saw this pattern on Facebook and Pinterest, so I eyed the pattern and came up with my own measurements. Supposedly... this is a old pattern. It caught my attention because it uses remnants of fabric and I hate seeing things go to waste. This project uses a dryer sheet. So... save your dryer sheets!  Cut a piece of paper and dryer sheet to 6.5” square.  Find the 2” width and mark with line.  Draw a line on the left and right to the bottom center.  Cut out pattern piece.  Cut a rectangular piece of fabric for the center piece. 3” x 9.5” Place pattern piece on top of the fabric and cut to size. I used symmetrical patterns / colors on each side of the diamond. The width of fabric was 1/2” - 2”, s and used scrap triangle pieces for the ends.  Watch short video clip „ here “ Finished block size should be 6.5“ Very similar to endless chain:
