I’m working on one now (my first attempt at it) The tricky part is sizing your batting & backing so the fold-over part comes out even.

Anita Gooddesign has a wonderful embroidery design that I used. It says; Once Upon A Time.  I cut two 16 x 16 pieces of fabric and embroidered one of them.

Bought some colorful elastic from AMA Creatives LLC, based out of Georgetown, TX for $13.95. This block can be found in the book titled; “One Hundred and one Patchwork Patterns” by Ruby Short McKim. The book was published in 1931. The Dutchman’s puzzle is made of eight Flying Geese.

When I first got into quilting and started buying fabric online, the word swatch would appear. I guess that it was a sample of fabric for a discounted price. I haven't found any free swatches, but Amazon.com lets you buy some. On my first attempt the points were a little off- so I made a second one: I finally completed my January and February blocks.

One thing that I like to do for my children as they grow and leave home is to give them a copy of our favorite family recipes. I began collecting recipes after marrying my husband Ed in 2011. Coming together as one family and different taste buds was a chore. Foods I liked he didn’t like and things he liked we hadn’t tried. The first two years I just started writing down what everyone liked and if it passed the family test it went into our family cookbook.  Every couple of years I have to update or edit recipes a little. Every once in a while we find something better and / or healthier. The older we get the more restrictions we have on our diet habits. Right now we are into the low carb and sometimes low oxylate diet. Our children enjoy getting a copy of the family recipe book and hopefully it reminds them of home while cooking their delicious meals.

So many patterns can be completed using small triangles.
