Six Generation Family Tree – Flags of my ancestors

Six Generation Family Tree – Flags of my ancestors

Every-time I continue my research, I discover new things! It's amazing how much can be found. All you need is a little time and lots of patience. Research and discovering new ancestors, stories and pictures never seems to end.

Ancestry research however can be very daunting, the names start running together. (Especially if you are working on multiple trees) In some cases parents (mothers and fathers) gave their children the same name they had, which can make research somewhat confusing.

Citizenship by descent, also known as citizenship by ancestry, can grant you access to an ancestral passport. Here are 6 countries where you can qualify for dual citizenship based on ancestry.

🇮🇹 Italy: Can you trace your ancestry back to Italy AND prove it? You may qualify if you were born to Italian parents, grandparents, or great grandparents.

🇩🇪 Germany: If you were born to at least one German parent. You also may qualify if your ancestors had to forfeit their German nationality. Rules vary based on if you were born in or out of wedlock and the date of your birth.

🇭🇺 Hungary: If you have a parent or grandparent who is or was a citizen of Hungary, you qualify.

🇮🇪 Ireland: If one of your parents or one of your grandparents was born in Ireland, you qualify!

🇵🇱 Poland: If your parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were born in Poland, you can qualify. There must be an unbroken chain of citizenship.

🇪🇸 Spain: If you have a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent born in Spain, you qualify.

Why would you want dual citizenship? Citizenship in any of the above countries grants you access to every EU member state. That means you can live, work, or study anywhere in the EU.
