Rolladen

Ingredients: Servings 4    

 * 1 lb beef (in four thin slices) – hammered flat            

* mustard and ketchup mix (curry optional)

* Salt                               

* pepper

* 2 slices bacon, cooked                               

* 1 small onion and carrot slices, peeled

* 2 tablespoons cooking oil  

* 2 cups water

* 1 -2 teaspoon cornstarch or flour                 

* 1 tablespoon water

* Red wine

 

Directions:

  1. Spread the beef slices lightly with the prepared mustard/ketchup mix. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Add onion (optional), carrot, pickle and bacon. Spread 1/4 of this mix on each slice of beef.
  3. Starting at the short end, roll each slice up and secure with a skewer or tie with thread.
  4. Heat the oil and brown / sear the rolls well on all sides.
  5. (Can be placed in crockpot for 2-3 hours) Carefully pour in 1/2 cup of boiling water. Cover and simmer slowly for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, adding additional water as it cooks away.
  6.  Mix the cornstarch / flour with 1 tsp. cold water and thicken the sauce. (The larger amount of cornstarch will result in a thicker sauce). Add red wine to season
  7. Season to taste and serve.
