June 2026 End of Month Reflection

🌿 Simple Joys & Family Moments

Wonderful month

With no school schedule tugging at me, I leaned into rest and connection. I spent long stretches watching my aquarium—tiny worlds inside glass—and even convinced my mom to start one of her own. After a few days of sending ideas back and forth, she texted me, “I’m hooked.” That made my whole week.

I sewed with my friend Anette, laughed with my mom over schnitzel and potato salad (German comfort food is still undefeated), and celebrated my son passing his CNA written exam with breakfast at Black Bear Diner. Proud mom moment.

🎬 Cozy Watching

June was also a month of curling up with good stories. A few favorites:

  • Raya and the Last Dragon — sweet, colorful, and full of heart.

  • Undercover Miss Hong & My Royal Nemesis — two Korean shows that are absolutely worth the subtitles.

  • The Wunderfools — quirky and fun.

  • The Ultimate Gift — gentle and meaningful.

  • Cinderella Man — an old favorite that still hits hard.

  • Avatar: Fire and Ash — something new and visually stunning.

  • House of the Dragon — continuing the saga.

🧵 Creative Wins

June surprised me with some beautiful milestones:

  • Teacher of the Year through Lemonade Day — a sweet recognition that made me feel seen.

  • Shared meals and moments with my mom and Sebastian — breakfast, dinner, conversations.

  • Lunch with my 1st grade team at Chuy’s — laughter, queso, and good company.

  • A fresh haircut by Kaitlyn Browning at Mad About Hair — sometimes a trim feels like a reset.

  • Completed a tote bag sewing class with my mom and Anette (the bag is still in progress, but that’s part of the charm).

  • A road trip with Ed — new places, new memories.

  • Delicious BBQ with my hubby — smoky, simple happiness.

  • 🪡 Works in Progress

    Because real creativity is honest:

    • Did not work on any UFOs this month — and that’s okay.

    • T-shirt quilt for Mrs. Spencer — slow, steady progress.

🗓️ Looking Ahead

July already feels exciting. I’ve found new joy in fishkeeping and can’t wait for Shark Week at the end of the month. Ed and I have been playing Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht together—he’s getting really good at it, which makes the game even more fun. Finally saw my Art piece posted on the Forest Fauna Mural.

✨ Closing Thought

June wasn’t loud or dramatic—it was gentle, colorful, and full of tiny joys. A month stitched together with family, creativity, rest, and new hobbies. A month that reminded me that happiness often shows up in small, everyday moments.

Fidget Blanket (Fummeldecke) Ideas

This will be my first time ever making a fidget blanket- I was so happy to have the opportunity today to gift my Oma a fidget blanket. I love her with all my heart, it just makes me so sad that not much can be done for her while struggling through dementia. She told me it was beautiful and she appeared to like it. I showed her each square and what she can do with it. The first thing she noticed was the wording; „Mit Liebe Gemacht“ which translates to „Made with love“.  Oma Hildegard is German and I wanted to make sure she would recognize things and always remember that we love her.  What is a Fidget Blanket? Fidget blankets are therapeutic small lap quilts to which different kinds of things are sewn or added on. These items offer sensory stimulation that can have a calming effect on patient who struggle with memory loss. The Fidget blankets help them stay busy avoiding boredom. It provides a means of performing repetitive behaviors that are often reassuring and calming. ...

Diamonds Are Forever Quilt Block

Saw this pattern on Facebook and Pinterest, so I eyed the pattern and came up with my own measurements. Supposedly... this is a old pattern. It caught my attention because it uses remnants of fabric and I hate seeing things go to waste. This project uses a dryer sheet. So... save your dryer sheets!  Cut a piece of paper and dryer sheet to 6.5” square.  Find the 2” width and mark with line.  Draw a line on the left and right to the bottom center.  Cut out pattern piece.  Cut a rectangular piece of fabric for the center piece. 3” x 9.5” Place pattern piece on top of the fabric and cut to size. I used symmetrical patterns / colors on each side of the diamond. The width of fabric was 1/2” - 2”, s and used scrap triangle pieces for the ends.  Watch short video clip „ here “ Finished block size should be 6.5“ Very similar to endless chain:
