Colors of the Rainbow

🌈 Colors of the Rainbow Challenge

A year‑long creative adventure with scraps, fabric, and color play

What This Challenge Is

If you love working with color — fabric, paper, yarn, paint, or any medium — this challenge gives you a playful monthly prompt. Each month focuses on one color, and you’re invited to create anything you like using that color as the star.

  • Each month = one color prompt
  • Create anything you like in that color
  • Share your project in the Facebook group or comments
  • I’ll post a monthly slideshow of everyone’s creations
  • Quilters: Make one block per month and assemble a quilt in December

This is a no‑pressure, all‑fun project. Share your makes, get inspired, and use up those scraps that have been waiting for their moment.

Quilters’ Corner

If you’re quilting along, the only “rule” is that the monthly color should be the main focus of your block. Any size, any style, any extras — it’s your creative playground. No quilt police here.

Participants who complete at least 12 blocks can assemble a quilt top to share in December 2026.

For Quilters or Fabric piercers: The plan is to pull out some scraps in the designated color of the month and make one or more blocks each month.  The members who participate in 2025 are asked to make one or more tops using at least 12 blocks (one from each month) and show them in December 2026.  The tops can be quilted, but don't have to be.

These are your blocks; no quilt police are involved in this project.  The only "rule" is that the color of the month should be predominant in each block.  Add any other colors, any size, do your thing.  Have fun and use some scraps!

Fidget Blanket (Fummeldecke) Ideas

This will be my first time ever making a fidget blanket- I was so happy to have the opportunity today to gift my Oma a fidget blanket. I love her with all my heart, it just makes me so sad that not much can be done for her while struggling through dementia. She told me it was beautiful and she appeared to like it. I showed her each square and what she can do with it. The first thing she noticed was the wording; „Mit Liebe Gemacht“ which translates to „Made with love“.  Oma Hildegard is German and I wanted to make sure she would recognize things and always remember that we love her.  What is a Fidget Blanket? Fidget blankets are therapeutic small lap quilts to which different kinds of things are sewn or added on. These items offer sensory stimulation that can have a calming effect on patient who struggle with memory loss. The Fidget blankets help them stay busy avoiding boredom. It provides a means of performing repetitive behaviors that are often reassuring and calming. ...
