May Flowers, Time Capsules, and Fin-Tastic Lessons: My May Recap! 🌸✨

Whew, we made it to the end of May! Between wrapping up the school year, celebrating huge family milestones, and tending to my creative spaces, this month has been a beautiful, whirlwind ride.

I have this monthly reflection wheel in my journal, I can see exactly where my energy went—teaching, family, and art life definitely took the crown this month! Here is a little peek into what went down in my world this May:

🍎 School Year Wrap-Up & A Peek Into the Future

The end of the school year is always a mix of big emotions and busy days. I received my official job assignment for the next school year, which is so exciting! My sweet students showered me with some incredibly thoughtful end-of-the-year gifts that truly melted my heart.

We also did something unforgettable on May 21, 2026—I participated in my very first time capsule event! I placed a special envelope into the box and watched it get sealed away. It made me think so much about growth, legacy, and what the future holds.

💡 Hard-Earned Lessons (aka Notes to My Future Self)

Every month brings its own wisdom, and May taught me a lot about classroom management and boundaries:

The "Less is More" Classroom Philosophy: Note to self for next year… maybe less stuff in the classroom means less to clean at the end of the school year? 😅

The Great April Organizing Project: Next year, the plan is to start cleaning and organizing the garage in April to make room for all my teaching gear.

Protecting My Peace: Lesson learned—starting in April, don’t plan anything outside of regular school stuff. End-of-year teacher brain is real, and boundaries are a beautiful thing!

💍 👶 Family, Celebrations, & Sweet Moments

My heart was absolutely full this month. For Mother's Day, Sebastian treated me to a delicious homemade roast (the ultimate comfort food!).

The universe also blessed our family with two massive milestones in the span of just two days.

On May 22, 2026, Michelle got married! 🥂 And the very next day, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, I welcomed my sweet new niece, Liana, into the world. Love and new beginnings are definitely in the air!

🐠 An Underwater Plot Twist

For my fellow aquarium hobbyists, I had a hilarious realization this month. It turns out I was completely wrong about my guppy male-to-female ratio! Let’s just say nature always finds a way, and my tank dynamics keep me on my toes.

🌱 Looking Ahead: My June Intentions

As I transition into a new month and shift my energy toward personal wellness, coaching, and creative projects, I’m keeping my goals beautifully simple:

1. Drink more water for hydration. 💧

2. Eat more greens for good digestion and vitality. 🥬

Fidget Blanket (Fummeldecke) Ideas

This will be my first time ever making a fidget blanket- I was so happy to have the opportunity today to gift my Oma a fidget blanket. I love her with all my heart, it just makes me so sad that not much can be done for her while struggling through dementia. She told me it was beautiful and she appeared to like it. I showed her each square and what she can do with it. The first thing she noticed was the wording; „Mit Liebe Gemacht“ which translates to „Made with love“.  Oma Hildegard is German and I wanted to make sure she would recognize things and always remember that we love her.  What is a Fidget Blanket? Fidget blankets are therapeutic small lap quilts to which different kinds of things are sewn or added on. These items offer sensory stimulation that can have a calming effect on patient who struggle with memory loss. The Fidget blankets help them stay busy avoiding boredom. It provides a means of performing repetitive behaviors that are often reassuring and calming. ...
